DIY Floral Crowns

It's spring time which means flowers are blooming! Just kidding. It's just an excuse to make floral crowns. I saw brides wearing these really soft and diaphanous floral crowns in spring pre-wedding shoots so I wanted to make some for my self too! I didn't spend much on this project since I bought everything during my trip to China. The flowers costed about 10RMB while the floral tape and wire costed 3RMB each - that's around $3. I like smaller flowers in comparison to bigger ones and it's always a good idea to buy flowers that are opened. Depending on my mood, each crown can take up to 1 hour to make.

supplies:
If you can't go to China to buy cheap material, you can always visit your local craft store. Silk flowers look a lot more 'real' so if you can get your hands on some, it would be ideal. Basically, you'll need a bunch of flowers, floral pliers or scissors, floral tape and wire. They might cost a lot more where you live but you can make several crowns so it 'lowers' the cost of making one.

step one: using the floral wire, wrap it around the part of your head where you want to it to sit. I make mine sit comfortably in the middle of my forehead. I also get enough wire so that it can go around my head 3 times. To make it more sturdy, you can weave the wire through the first layer of wire.

step two: cut out the flower blooms you want to use (make sure to include some stem!) and place it in the direction you want it to face or the direction which makes it more easier to wrap wire around. You might want to arrange your flowers before you actually tie them on to the body of your crown so if you make any position mistakes you won't need to unravel the whole thing.

step three: wrap the flower bloom on to the circle of wire very tightly. If you have pliers, they can help. Repeat this with all the other flowers you want to use. You can choose to cover the whole circle with flowers or just the front - it's up to you!

step four: once you're done, wrap the uncovered 'skeleton' of your crown with floral tape:
And you're done! You can give them to friends or wear them out to parties and such. If you find them too plain, you can always add little things like ribbon to accessorise it! Have fun!
